The Pancolar 50mm f1.8 is Carl Zeiss Jena's fast standard prime and one of the most sought after lenses of the East German era. This is an early example carrying the “aus JENA” export marking, built with the high refractive index thorium glass that gives these lenses their distinctive warm cast and their reputation. Wide open it is beautifully sharp in the centre with gentle falloff and a creamy rendering that modern glass does not try to imitate.
This is also the eight blade version, the scarcer of the two. The extra blades hold the aperture far closer to circular as you stop down, so out of focus highlights stay round rather than turning hexagonal.

60-Day Guarantee

All items are properly tested and prepared before sale, and if a fault appears within the first 60 days, we aim to repair it within two weeks of being returned.
